23 October 2026 /Khovar/. Specialists of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan say the snow leopard, also called ozodapalang, is one of the most beautiful mountain animals, and its presence in Tajikistan’s high snow-covered mountains reflects the purest ecosystems in this mountainous land.
23.10.2026 /Khovar/. The snow leopard, also known as ozodapalang, is described in Tajikistan as a rare protected species. The report refers to International Snow Leopard Day, the species’ inclusion in the international and national Red Books, and the State Programme for the Protection of the Snow Leopard for 2024-2028. According to the report, at least 500 snow leopards live in Tajikistan, with key habitats in several mountain areas, including Badakhshan, Lakhsh, Sangvor and the country’s specially protected natural territories. Under the state programme, monitoring, scientific research, anti-poaching measures and steps to reduce human threats are being carried out.
