A report for 15 October presents official statistics on women in Tajikistan and outlines state support for rural women, including presidential grants and the presidential quota for girls' education.
15 October is observed as the International Day of Rural Women. The date was adopted in 2008 by a special resolution of the United Nations General Assembly with the aim of improving conditions for women in rural areas.
According to official data, as of 1 January 2026 Tajikistan had a registered population of 10 million 721.5 thousand people, of whom 5 million 282.9 thousand were women. Of this total, 3 million 723 thousand women live in rural areas. The 2025 Labour Force Survey also records 3 million 18 thousand 773 people aged 15 to 75.
The report says rural women are active in education, healthcare, industry, agriculture and handicrafts. The government supports them through presidential grants and the presidential quota for girls from remote areas to study. It also cites remarks by Emomali Rahmon on 7 March 2025 about women's role in farming households and family economic development.
