On the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek, Emomali Rahmon and Vladimir Putin discussed bilateral ties, economic and energy cooperation, and regional and global issues.

On 1 September, in Bishkek on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a meeting was held between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The talks reviewed the current state of multi-faceted Tajikistan–Russia cooperation and the prospects for its further development. Particular attention was given to security and stability, trade and the economy, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction of the Centre for the Development of Gifted Children and the new Mayakovsky Drama Theatre building in Dushanbe. They also focused on the development of trade, entrepreneurship, investment and energy cooperation.

The two leaders underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation to ensure regional security and stability, including in countering the threats and challenges of the modern world. They also exchanged views on certain issues relating to the situation in the region and globally.
