Artificial intelligence in cyber security: views on its potential and impact on cyber defence

This analytical piece examines the growing role of artificial intelligence in cyber security and says it can help with threat detection, incident analysis, vulnerability prioritisation and the automation of part of defensive operations.
According to Khovar on 2026-09-18, artificial intelligence is no longer a distant future topic and has become one of the main forces reshaping the cyber security environment. The article says AI-based systems can process large volumes of data in a short time, identify threats and automate part of the repetitive work carried out in defence operations.
The author stresses that the right model for using AI in cyber security operations centres should be based on human-machine cooperation, mandatory human oversight, logging and audit. It also highlights the need to train interdisciplinary specialists in Cybersecurity, Threat Intelligence, AI/ML, LLM, Data Security, Prompt Security, Cloud Security, Automation, Digital Forensics and Incident Response.
The conclusion is that artificial intelligence can improve the speed and accuracy of cyber defence, but human supervision must remain in place in government environments and critical infrastructure. The aim is not to replace specialists, but to strengthen their capabilities and make the SOC faster and more accurate.
