The number of schools and pupils has increased in Sughd Region

In the 2026-2027 academic year, the number of educational institutions in Sughd Region rose by 11 and the number of pupils by 17,403.
According to Khovar, citing the press service of the Chairman of Sughd Region, there are 977 general education institutions operating in the region in the 2026-2027 academic year. These include 868 secondary schools, 36 gymnasiums and 30 lyceums, with 610,728 pupils studying there, including 297,596 girls. In addition, 330 pre-school institutions are providing care and education for 54,892 children.
To address the shortage of places and develop infrastructure, 64 education-sector facilities with 14,314 places were commissioned in the region from January to September 2026. By the end of the year, construction of new buildings and additional classrooms at 91 schools for 27,791 places, as well as 50 new kindergartens for 6,585 children, is planned.
