Republic of Tajikistan ratifies the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

A forum was held in Dushanbe on the initiative of the lower house of Tajikistan's parliament, together with UN offices in Tajikistan and a disability organisation.
DUSHANBE, 13.10.2026 /AMIT “Khovar”/. Today, on the initiative of the House of Representatives of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, together with the UN Office of Programme in Tajikistan and the public organisation “National Union of Persons with Disabilities of Tajikistan”, the forum “Ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities - Tajikistan's next initiative in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals” was held.
The aim of the forum was to create direct dialogue between legislative and executive bodies, development partners and the community of persons with disabilities. Speakers underlined the importance of ratifying the Convention and the need to identify priority tasks and practical measures for implementing its provisions in the Republic of Tajikistan.
The forum also examined the protection of the rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities, improvements to the legal framework, strengthening social policy and ensuring equal opportunities for participation in public life.
