The President of Tajikistan has declared the tulip and the blackhead as national flowers by decree. The official explanation presents them as part of the country's cultural heritage and a symbol of the Tajik people's bond with nature.
In order to honour historical and cultural heritage, protect the country’s nature and raise environmental awareness among the public, the tulip and the blackhead have been declared national flowers by decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The official note says this decision continues the identity-building policy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, aimed at reviving the national and cultural values of the Tajik people and promoting ancient traditions in modern times. The two flowers are described as being closely linked with Navruz and the spring season.
It also states that the decree will help create conditions for the scientific study of flower varieties and the prevention of the loss of rare plants, while contributing to stronger national identity and environmental culture, especially among young people.
