The National Bank of Tajikistan has warned about malicious .apk files being spread through social media and messaging apps and urged citizens to take care when using digital banking services.
DUSHANBE, 2026-10-06 /NIAT “Khovar”/. The National Bank of Tajikistan warns that in recent days fraudsters have been distributing malicious files in .apk format through social media, Telegram, WhatsApp and other communication channels.
According to the National Bank, such files may be sent under the guise of banking apps, documents, receipts, wedding invitations, photos or other information. Downloading and installing these files may give fraudsters access to a mobile phone, personal data, SMS messages, banking apps and electronic wallets, which can lead to the theft of funds.
To protect money and personal information, the National Bank of Tajikistan recommends that .apk files sent via Telegram, WhatsApp or other unknown and unverified sources should never be downloaded or installed, suspicious links received through messengers, SMS or email should not be opened, and PINs, passwords, one-time SMS codes and other banking details should never be shared with anyone. If a suspicious file has already been installed, or if you suspect that your banking data has been exposed, you should contact the serving financial institution immediately.
