State Greening Programme: let us make a substantial contribution to its effective implementation
Summary and context
In Dushanbe on 2026-10-22, a working meeting on the implementation of the “State Greening Programme of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2040” stressed the use of local seedlings and the need for measures to ensure their care and survival.
At a working meeting held on 15 October with the participation of sector officials, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sulyamon Ziyozoda, said that when choosing seedlings for greening work, priority should be given to local tree varieties suited to the soil and climate of each area. He also called for important measures to ensure the care and growth of the planted seedlings.
According to officials, more than 2 billion trees will be planted under the programme, whose main goal is to turn Tajikistan into a “green country.” The programme is aimed at increasing green areas, restoring forests, using natural resources rationally, and protecting biodiversity, while also helping to combat dust, prevent desertification, reduce soil degradation and address the effects of climate change.
